In July 2014, POLY-GCL dispatched Chinese personnel to take over the Calub oil field in Somali Region of Ethiopia, and successively completed the construction of the main camp, access road and airport at the Calub oil field site as well as 2D field geophysical prospecting, 3D geophysical prospecting and drilling of two wells.

During the period, security work for  long-distance mobilization of large amount of equipment, travel of staff, supply of goods and materials, field work like drilling and geophysical prospecting were organized in an orderly manner.

The management of the company attaches great importance to the security work and has established a complete security system in coordination with local security units including government forces and local police. The development of the project has driven economic growth and obtained support from local government. Meanwhile, the company actively established a good image of Chinese enterprises and promoted the establishment of community relations. The project’s field work was well recognized by local residents. Since the start of the project, with the help of the embassy and the full support of Ethiopian government and military, as well as the efforts of all staff, there have been no safety incidents in terms of personnel, property and natural disaster.

POLY-GCL has received the OHSAS18001 certification issued by Bureau Veritas for the HSSE management system of overseas oil and gas operations, which indicates that POLY-GCL’s HSSE management system has been recognized by international authorities and achieved international standards.
